Silt Curtain
ProFab® floating silt curtains are used to contain mobilised soil particles from propagating into waterways from adjacent construction sites.
ProFab® floating silt curtains are manufactured from self buoyant, durable polypropylene non woven geotextile. A 100mm float is pre-installed into the top high visibility pocket, and a ballast chain for weighting purposes maintaining tautness is pre–installed in the bottom pocket.
Individual sections are easily and firmly joined end to end through eyelets and industrial velcro is used to strengthen and tightly seal the joins.

Silt Curtains are also referred to as a turbidity barrier, turbidity curtain or silt barrier.
Application
The purpose of a Silt Curtain is to contain any turbidity during construction activities near waterways, therefore limiting the extent of the silt movement into the waterway.

Installation
A standard section is 15m long and a 2m drop. Sections shall be joined end to end to create the entire curtain length required. Curtains are then positioned using available water craft, towed into positions and then the bundles cut open allowing the 2m deep skirt to drop into position. Custom lengths and skirt/drop lengths are available on request.
Specifying Silt Curtains
Global Synthetics is able to configure a silt curtain to meet the anticipated environmental and hydraulic conditions, however, the ultimate effectiveness is only as good as the base information provided by clients. the primary factors to be considered are:
Environmental loadings: When determining an appropriate silt curtain for a location waterflow and wind loading will determine the required longitudinal strength and anchoring arrangements.

Deploying silt curtains: in tidal areas where there is little tidal stream, there will still be impoundment loadings effecting the curtain. This is the effect of the water either entering and exiting the area, contained by the curtain and is determined by the area impounded multiplied by the tidal range the resulting water volume which is then interpolated against a tidal curve for the area to estimate the flows.
