Project : Grand Reve Strip Drain Filter
Date: August 2022
Location: Castle Hill, NSW
Product: ProDrain® Strip Drain & Fittings
The Project
Grand Reve is the latest offering from Kassis Homes, set to transform Sydney’s North-Western suburb of Castle Hill.
With substantial forecasted population growth, and the North West Metro, Castle Hill is becoming a soughtafter suburb. Due for completion late 2023, Grand Reve has been billed as the most prestigious development ever offered in the Hills District, boasting a collection of 196 contemporary apartment across two towers.
Below the two towers is the project’s unique brick base feature, which houses the open-air concierge, designed with weather-protected corridors and integrated gardens.
The Challenge
Beneath this development, the basement car park presented drainage issues. Further below the garden and brick base, the basement of this multi-level residential apartment is being constructed on a flat geographic environment subject to presence of high amounts of ground water. The contractor needed to manage the drainage issues on site before further construction could take place.
The Solution
The design for this project specified that strip drains be placed between each shotcrete-lined pile, including weep holes to assist in the removal (out flow) of any trapped water. Strip drain ‘Tee’ fittings placed along the filters acted to capture and drain any water trapped in the reinforced retaining wall, and served as adaptors to standard round plumbing pipe at these weep hole drainage points.
ProDrain® geocomposite strip drain from Global Synthetics was selected as the drainage solution of choice. ProDrain® acts as a drainage interface in soil reinforced retaining structures or in highly specialised applications such as underground carparks.
With its three-dimensional, high flow drainage core that is fully wrapped in nonwoven geotextile, strip drain filters replace conventional gravel-covered pipe drains. This is because strip drains provide a far greater surface area for water to flow in and out of. This versatile product can be used either vertically or horizontally to provide drainage in conjunction with stabilisation structures.
ProDrain® SD Series Strip Filter Drains are prefabricated with a drainage core combined with a high flow geotextile covering that prevents long-term blockage of the core by excluding the ingress of fine soil particles. The core is made from HDPE polymer combined with a PP/PET geotextile. Both polymers are inert to a wide range of acids and alkalis likely to be found in a soil environment, making it ideal for most soil types.
ProDrain® Strip Filter Drainage systems provide more efficient drainage capacities than imported natural materials such as crushed aggregate and conventional pipe systems. The ProDrain® prefabricated drainage products come in a wide selection of depths for a variety of applications and site conditions, and are lightweight, easy to handle and simple to install. methods. Additionally, ProDrain® SD Series Strip Filter Drains save time and money on-site, requiring minimal trench excavation and providing a more cost-effective method than traditional drainage solutions.
The Results
The contractor decided to proceed with using our SD300mm x 40mm strip drain, as this width was well suited to the scale of this project and would allow for optimal drainage.
