The Ocean Reef Marina in the City of Joondalup represents a sustainable initiative to transform a coastal area into a vibrant mixed-use precinct. This comprehensive development aims to establish a world-class marina that caters to a plethora of activities and services.
The Project
The project includes the construction of waterfront cafes, restaurants, and a wide range of berthing options for watercraft, including superyachts. Beyond the maritime features, the project extends to include over 1,000 residential units, significant retail and commercial spaces, and expansive community areas. The integration of local clubs and services like Marine Rescue Whitfords and the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club is also a key feature, signifying the project's commitment to community inclusivity and enhancement.
The Challenge
Protecting this world-class development from harsh coastal conditions requires construction of external and internal rock revetment walls. These walls are vulnerable to erosion and washout caused by seasonal storm and watercraft activity.
Our Solution
ProFab® ULTRA is a heavy weight nonwoven geotextile designed to be positioned between rock armour layers and the erosive revetment subgrade. ProFab® ULTRA prevents the scouring and washout of the subgrade material to maintain structural integrity of the rock revetment. ProFab® ULTRA AS1200X was selected for its robustness and ability to withstand the dynamic impact of the interface stone.
The Results
The project contractor ‘WA Limestone’ chose ProFab® ULTRA AS1200X because it exceeded specification requirements and was readily available in Perth. The finished revetment walls will protect the coastal hub from harsh environmental stress, providing a safe and stable marina for recreation, tourism, and community life for years to come.
