General Information
In 2011, the Toyota Forklift site at Larapinta was to be raised and leveled as part of the site development. The existing boundary was to be raised to allow a concreted hardstand to be constructed above the retaining wall maintaining as much usable area as possible on the hardstand area.
The wall face was adjacent to a nature reserve that was to be protected against physical and environmental damage making it impossible to work from in front of the wall.
Solution
To overcome this, Global Synthetics, in partnership with ACE provided a solution to the consultant adopting a steep geogrid reinforced retaining wall with a 70 degree from horizontal wrapped face solution.
A geotextile was installed inside the front face to contain the reinforced fill. Approximately 6000 sqm of ACEGrid® GG120 was installed with a 600mm vertical spacing used between reinforcement layers.
Results
The ACEGrid® reinforced soil structure provided the ideal solution as the flexible facing lined with geotextile, contained the reinforced back fill and could be constructed from behind.
The reinforced soil structure provided a neat appearance, structurally stable to support the load of the hardstand and no disturbance occurred to the adjacent nature zone.
