Project: Industrial Warehouse Development
Date: June 2022
Location: Clunies Ross Street, Prospect
Product: ACEGrid® Uniaxial Geogrid GG120
Project Background
With flat land around Sydney becoming harder to find, developers are seeking out old industrial land to revitalise and build more appropriate structures for today’s needs.
The Challenges
To make better use of this valuable land, the developer needed to split the site and create flat areas to build warehouses. To do this, significant cut and fill work was required to create flat sites, and reinforced soil walls were needed to retain the soil between the various land lots.
Segmental block retaining walls provided the necessary separation, however during construction, it was critical to include a geogrid to strengthen the structure. This would ensure it can withstand heavy loads of the planned industrial warehouse building.
Our Solution
The system selected by the project engineers features a segmental block retaining wall which is supported by ACEGrid® Uniaxial Geogrid.
With a concrete block at the face of the wall and ACEGrid® geogrid reinforcement underneath, this strong and rigid system strengthens the soil creating a retaining wall capable of withstanding heavy loads and day-to-day industrial warehouse applications.
ACEGrid® is an engineered woven geogrid that has exceptionally high strength characteristics at low levels of strain. The product is additionally coated with a polymer that provides high resistance to degradation in soil environments as well as providing additional UV and mechanical damage protection to the fibres.
Using ACEGrid® Uniaxial Geogrid, walls can be constructed from 2m to over 10m high, creating an aesthetically pleasing masonry wall that also offers fast construction time, flexible design options and an economical solution to strengthening segmental block walls.
